296 Montford Ave. – 1900 Inn on Montford
Willy & Shawnie Gruber
This splendid home was built for Dr. Charles S. Jordon in 1900, as the name of the inn implies. Noted Asheville architect Richard Sharp Smith designed the home, as well as the adjacent home that is now the Black Walnut Inn. Some of the original architectural drawings are on display in the Inn. Now owned by Willy and Shawnie Gruber, the 1900 Inn on Montford is a handsome 3-story asymmetrical dwelling, with shingles over pebbledash exterior, an expansive front porch with Montford brackets, stone foundation, and numerous other notable architectural details. Along with carefully curated commons areas, eight elegantly appointed bedrooms and 8 ½ baths are easily accommodated in the spacious arts and crafts home. Note the landscaping and the classic approach, with mature boxwoods accenting the walk and directing the eye toward the immaculately preserved home.
