Ashima Nair

Built in 1898 for Dr. John E. Hampton, this eclectic home is the only Neoclassical Revival dwelling in Montford. The vernacular 2-story shingle over stucco structure has high Doric columns, up and down large bay windows on the narrow front façade and a full second floor balcony, lending itself to a Charleston-esque first impression. Inside, original hardwood floors with a golden patina flow throughout the house. Note the original seven-inch moldings around all windows and doors. The dining area opens to an exquisitely updated chef’s kitchen. The house features four original fireplaces – two upstairs and two downstairs. The living and dining room fireplaces have been restored while preserving their historic charm. The home embodies owner Ashima Nair’s eclectic style and love of color and has a feeling of lived-in comfort. Her Indian heritage and mementos from travels across the world are sensitively and artfully displayed around the house, blending perfectly with the preserved historic character.
