Dan & Judith Sanford
Dan and Judith Sanford’s Silver Level Green Built bungalow was completed in 2022 yet appears to have been here for 100 years. The steep, narrow lot with its century-old sycamore tree created multiple challenges. But what the owners saw were the unique opportunities that led to three levels of modern, livable space. The fitting charm of the exterior took its cue from surrounding historic bungalows. Wide dormers in the gable roof, columned front and back porches, shingle siding, and period-style windows and doors all speak to the craftsmen-style vernacular. This comfortable light-filled home is decorated in a mid-century style with vintage and custom pieces and art from around the world. The main level is designed for entertainment with a chef’s kitchen, wine bar, and dining area opening through French doors onto a large covered back porch. The upstairs accommodates the primary suite and a second bedroom, both with vaulted ceilings and ensuite bathrooms, while the lower level welcomes guests with a complete living space. The synergy between the owners, the architect Rusafova Markulis, and the builder JAG Construction resulted in a perfect urban retreat.
